Gain Greater Control Over Your Product Flows with Our Accumulation Conveyor Systems

Do you need a material handling system that can help you:

  • Create space to provide a buffer zone between products?
  • Enable and maintain a steady supply of product?
  • Merge products from multiple lines into a single stream?
  • Contain overflow while orienting or holding back products when there’s a difference in production rates from downstream processes?

With Conger’s expert guidance, we can design an accumulation conveyor systems to help you with all those needs!

How Accumulation Conveyor Systems Work

Accumulation conveyors help create space, enable better product retention and replenishment, and reduce damage by providing a controlled method of transporting, accumulating, and feeding products throughout various processes like sorting, wrapping, palletizing, and strapping.

The purpose of accumulation conveyors is to manage differences in production rates by containing overflow and creating a buffer zone between products while maintaining a steady supply of products to downstream processes.

These systems use belts (for individual items) or rollers (for cartons and pallets) and are powered by either centralized or decentralized (AC or DC) power systems.

Additionally, we can design accumulator conveyors to fit a variety of layouts or processes, such as following straight or curved routes, making use of vertical space through vertical spiral conveyors, and functioning in fixed or dynamic zones.

The Benefits of Accumulation Conveyor Systems

By leveraging Conger’s accumulation conveyor design and implementation services, you can:

Gain greater control over your product flows

Consistent and efficiently timed for better precision and product positioning, fewer fluctuations in product line rates, fewer jams and systems backups, less product damage, and greater overall reliability.

Ensure a steady supply or retention of products when and where they’re needed

Programmable start, stop, and restart timed releases allow you to create empty zones between products, release products at timed intervals, or release all products at once for the fastest throughput.

Accommodate a wide variety of products and processes

We offer both predesigned and custom conveyor systems that can handle individual items, bins, cartons, drums, pallets, or anything in between, and can be tailored to your facility layout and product flows.

Decrease the burden on workers

Accumulator conveyors are simple to operate, reduce the need for manually handling loads and the associated risks, operate quietly for less noise fatigue, and are easy to maintain.

Types of Accumulation Conveyors

We offer various accumulator conveyor system designs, depending on the specifics of your items. These include:

Zero pressure accumulator conveyors

  • Prevents contact between products during accumulation
  • Works best with different product sizes and weights and where products are likely to damage other products
  • Consists of multiple zones that can be independently controlled to slow, stop, or restart
  • Uses a photo-eye installed in each zone to sense items and communicate with a zone controller, which starts or stops product movement, ensuring the right space between items and preventing pile-ups and damage

Minimum or medium pressure accumulator conveyors

  • Allows some contact between items during accumulation with the ability to limit the contact pressure down to 2% of the total weight
  • Works best with products that are consistent in size and weight
  • Consists of a belt-driven roller conveyor where the rollers can be manually adjusted to reduce pressure between the products

Pallet conveyors

  • For moving and handling large, heavy, or unwieldy loads using belt, slats, rollers, or chains
  • Uses photo eyes and AC/DC motors to control accumulation in specific zones for precise control of product flows
  • Help increase throughput and flexibility while lowering the overall costs of operation, improving safety, and reducing product damage

Vertical spiral conveyors

  • Saves floor space by conveying products above, below, or around obstructions like other equipment, walls, walkways, and workstations
  • Can be used for merging products from multiple levels to a single conveyor line
  • Vertical spiral conveyors provide many benefits, including safely transporting goods, increasing buffer times, and accommodating different product types and applications

Custom accumulation conveyors

Conger takes a brand-agnostic approach to accumulation conveyor design, which means we use whatever products are best for your project. This makes it easier to tailor the solution to the needs of your business. We will work with you to design and implement turnkey or custom options based on your:

  • Product size, weight, durability, and mix
  • Throughput rate requirements for downstream processes
  • The expected density of product accumulation

Common Accumulation Conveyor Applications

  • Manufacturing
  • Warehousing
  • Distribution
  • Food & beverage

Frequently Asked Questions About Accumulation Conveyors

Do you have questions about accumulation conveyor systems? We have answers.

I handle lots of different types of products in my operation. Can you design an accumulation system that accommodates each of them?

Yes! We offer accumulation systems that can fit nearly any product size, shape, and weight. Our experts will consider your product specifications and flows when selecting existing systems or creating custom systems to ensure they fit your handling needs.

I have a small operation. Do I have the budget for an accumulation conveyor system?

We work with large and small firms alike and will take into account any budgetary issues to ensure we find the best solutions that won’t break the bank and will deliver the best return on investment.

I have multiple processes involved in my operation. Will an accumulation system be able to handle the needs of each?

Our experts will consider your operation holistically, including aspects such as picking/packing, shipping, facility layout, and production rates to create an accumulation system that takes into account each moving part of your operation.
