A push-back racking system features rolling carts mounted to rails on each shelf.

Forklift operators place the pallet or load on these carts, which push back each pallet or load behind it as more are added.

When unloading, gravity brings the next available pallet forward, keeping the pick face replenished.

Thus, there’s no need to reach or drive into the rack.

This system is ideal for Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) inventory systems.

How many pallets can I store in a push-back system?

Can I use push-back racking with a FIFO inventory management system?

Yes, you can. This can be done by using multiple lanes for each SKU. When unloading, the operator will simply choose the oldest lane.

Do I need a special forklift for a push-back system?

No. Push-back systems can be loaded and unloaded with any type of forklift.

What are the maintenance requirements for push-back systems?

There are no maintenance or inspection frequency requirements for racking. But you’ll need to maintain your push-back racking more the more often you use it. Overall, racking should be inspected anywhere from monthly to yearly.
